The plot of land we call home is 4 miles from the village of Saxapahaw above the Haw River in Southern Alamance County.
Before our colonization it was the homeland of the Sissipahaw people. We acknowledge that our presence in this place is not excluded from the legacy or settler colonialism. We hope to restore the land to health as part of facing what we have inherited, and we hope to do more to unravel the legacy of injustice on the land.
We grow annual vegetables, perennial fruits, and herbs, and native vegetation and flowers/forbs on two acres surrounded by 8 acres of forest, which is home to a diversity of native wildlife.
Our paths collided as interns at Koinonia Farm in Americus, GA--a longtime crucible of faith, farming, and community.
With a mutual love of food and sharing the harvest, we relocated together to the Boone, NC area, where Jaimie had attended Appalachian State University. We spent 5 years building community in Todd, NC, as a part of Blackburn Community Outreach, where Matt started Beatitude Gardens on the land of Blackburns' Chapel, growing intensive vegetable production combined with a unique permaculture design across the church's property.
After relocating to the Chapel Hill area, we dreamed for years of a place to put down roots, where Matt could also rekindle his passion for growing food after taking on full-time care of their young children.
Our dream is not just to have a family farmstead, but to co-create with nature to show how we can build a sustainable future through care of the earth and traditional land-based economy.
This year in 2024 is our launch into that dream, and are pleased to offer our produce through an 18 week Spring-Summer CSA.
Jaimie works full time as Agricultural Conservation Manager for RAFI, a food justice non-profit, and Matt is a part-time cook at Short Winter Soups.
The gardens are not just a place of work, but of wonder and discovery.
We hope to offer many opportunities to tour, learn, and participate in the coming year!
we seek the health and vitality of land, creatures, and community.
we seek a posture of welcome to all.
We cultivate our farm as an axis of ecological awareness and connection, and seek to grow the eco- and agro-literacy of our community.
